Israel has resumed its airstrikes on Gaza following several weeks of ceasefire, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stating that negotiations for the release of hostages will only proceed "under fire." The renewed attacks have resulted in at least 13 deaths, with dozens injured, including women and children, in Khan Younis and Gaza City.
Germany has condemned the escalation, with Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock stating that the end of the ceasefire "shatters the hopes" of both Israelis and Palestinians for an end to suffering. Meanwhile, the Hamas leadership has said they are not abandoning ceasefire talks but insist that Israel must be forced to halt hostilities immediately and proceed with the second phase of negotiations.
Netanyahu has warned that the recent airstrikes are "only the beginning," arguing that military pressure is necessary to secure the return of Israeli hostages. Additionally, far-right leader Itamar Ben Gvir has been reinstated as Israel’s Minister of National Security, after resigning in January in protest against the previous ceasefire agreement.
